About our Legionella service
At Atēnia, we provide full consultancy on the prevention, treatment and control of Legionella in high-risk installations (such as cooling towers, hot and cold water systems, spas, ornamental fountains, humidifiers, etc.). We draft and implement self-monitoring plans, carry out water analysis and supply the appropriate treatment products.
What is Legionellosis?
Legionellosis is a bacterial infection caused by Legionella, typically found in freshwater environments, thriving between 35 °C and 40 °C. It presents in two clinical forms:
- Legionnaires’ disease: a severe pneumonia with high fever.
- Pontiac fever: a mild flu-like illness.
How is Legionella transmitted?
The bacteria spreads through inhalation of contaminated water aerosols (under 5 microns), often released by poorly maintained systems.
